Sir,
The recent violence at a Hindu temple in Brampton by pro-Khalistani demonstrators is deeply concerning.
Such acts threaten religious harmony and the safety of Indian nationals and places of worship in Canada. While Prime Ministers Modi and Trudeau have condemned this attack, a stronger commitment to protecting all communities is essential.
Canada’s multicultural identity should balance freedom of expression with the responsibility to prevent extremist ideologies from disrupting peaceful coexistence. The right to protest is vital, yet it must not infringe on others’ rights to safety and freedom of worship. Canada must ensure that places of worship remain safe and inclusive spaces, safeguarding the values of tolerance and respect. Ensuring accountability in these incidents will reinforce trust among diverse communities and help uphold Canada’s reputation as a beacon of religious freedom.
