GANDERBAL, July 23: The need based workers of Electric Maintenance and Rural Electrification (M&RE) who are without wages for last four years held a protest demonstration here today demanding immediate release of their pending wages in view of approaching Eid-ul-Fitr festival. They also demanded the regularization of their services.
The protest was led by Nazir Ahmed Shah president of the daily wagers. He urged the authorities to release the wages immediately as the workers are at the verge of starvation. He also urged the authorities to regularize their services without further delay and end the exploitation of working class.
He made an appeal to Commissioner Secretary Power and MoS Power to consider their case on priority basis and provide justice to these hapless workers who have rendered their prime youth to the department.
The protest was also addressed by Abdul Ahad Rather, vice president Central Non Gazetted Employees Union and Bilal Ahmed Kak vice president of need based workers.
They said the list of 415 workers has since been submitted to Chief Engineer and urged the Government to take necessary steps in settling their issue.
