JAMMU, Feb 17: Nami Dogri Sanstha (NDS), Jammu, has strongly demanded the Central Government to immediately initiate steps to set up ‘Satellite Duggar Channel’ at Jammu on the lines of Kashir Channel.
Addressing a press conference here today, NMS president, Lalit Magotra, said that the ‘Kashir Channel’—the only 24 hour Satellite Channel of the State, does not cater to the needs and aspirations of the Jammu region or Duggar region and hence there is an urgent need of a full fledged Duggar Channel, which would cater not only to the Dogri Language but also Punjabi, Pahari, Gojri and Bhaderwahi, which have a minimal representation (less than 2%) in Kashmir Channel.
“All languages of India, which are included in the VIIIth Schedule of Indian Constitution have their own independent satellite channels but unfortunately such is not the case with Dogri, a major language of J&K State, which is included in the VIIIth Schedule of Indian Constitution and is spoken in areas of Pakistan, PoK, areas adjacent to the LoAC on other side, Himachal Pradesh and also in the adjoining areas of Punjab”, Magotra regretted.
The NDS president said that the Kashir Channel, whose main purpose was to counter the false propaganda of Television channels of Pakistan and PoK and to educate the people across the border about truth regarding terrorism, has failed in its objective as the people living across the border and LoAC, do not speak or understand Kashmiri; they speak Dogri, Pahari, Gojri and Punjabi etc and only a Duggar Channel can play a decisive role in this regard and counter Pakistani propaganda most effectively.
Moreover, the Duggar Channel will highlight the composite, diverse and secular culture of Duggar region, where diverse culture and languages flourish side-by-side, Magotra maintained.
