JAMMU, June 20: The Federation of Unions of Industrial Workers (FUIW), Jammu has said that the NDA-Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is promoting crony capitalism in the country at the cost of the State exchequer, which is leading to massive unemployment.
In a meeting of the FUIW held here today, an overall view of the previous and current policies of the Central Government was made by the leaders. Speaking on the occasion, president of the Federation Nirdosh Uppal said that in Jammu and Kashmir also, industrial units are being closed down due to ill-effects of demonetization and implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
He said that under the J&K’s industrial policy, industrial subsidies, tax exemptions and incentives to industrialists were given to eradicate unemployment and develop State’s self-reliant economy. But the industrialists have miserably failed to do so even after massing big properties at the cost of state exchequer.
Nirdosh Uppal has said that the FUIW raised the question whether the heads of the departments and previous ministers were accountable to the people for wastage of huge resources of the state exchequer in unplanned industrialization in J&K. He also said that penalties should be imposed on the public functionaries and industrialists for wasting precious resources of the state exchequer.
He announced that FUIW would launch an agitation and mobilize the working class for reopening of the closed industrial units to the workers to run them on cooperative basis. He demanded that wage structure of the unorganised sector workers should be brought at par with Government employees.
Nirdosh Uppal said that the elected representatives of the people should be paid at par with the wages of the unorganized sector and all incentives to MLAs and MPs from the state exchequer should be stopped forthwith. “The money saved from these incentives should be disbursed as unemployment allowance to unemployed workers and educated youth, he added.
