NC will fight against demographic change in J&K: Sagar

SRINAGAR, May 2: The National Conference general secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar, today said that his party would not allow ‘BJP-PDP coalition Government’s conspiracies’ to change the demographic status of Jammu and Kashmir by giving State Subject status to people from outside the State.
Sagar, while addressing a gathering of NC workers at Residency Road near Pratap Park, said that when he was Law Minister in Omar Abdullah Government he had received 250 cases of outside State residents clandestinely seeking State Subject status in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, which he outrightly rejected.
Claiming that the NC has offered many sacrifices for laws like State Subject so that the interests J&K residents are safeguarded, he criticized the Mufti-led coalition Government’s proposal of transferring the power of issuing State Subject certificates from Deputy Commissioners. “He said this is in contravention to our achievements and we will fight tooth and nail against such policies,” he warned.
On resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits, Sagar charged the PDP leaders of lying and issuing contradictory statements. “One day PDP announces composite townships for Pandits, the next day they refute their own claim by saying there is no such proposal at all”, he said. The NC leader further said that the PDP lies were exposed when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh stated that PDP has already promised 400 kanals of land for separate settlements. “Kashmiri Pandits are our brothers and they are welcome to Kashmir but NC won’t allow Isreali type segregated settlements in Kashmir as proposed by PDP-BJP coalition Government,” he added.
While terming the new recruitment policy of PDP as unfair and unjust, Sagar said it was against the interests of educated youth and should be scrapped forthwith.
