SRINAGAR, May 23: National Conference general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmed (Advocate) has said that all political parties in India as well as in Pakistan should evolve a sustained consensus to improve bilateral ties between the two neighbours who are connected by their history, culture and philosophical roots.
Interacting with party workers and activists in Srinagar, he welcomed the statement of UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon asking India and Pakistan to extend a hand of friendship, trust and mutual cooperation to each other. He also welcomed initiatives of cooperation between the two countries and said that partisan conflicts should be shunned where matters of positive foreign policy are concerned.
Highlighting the need for continued dialogue and talks between New Delhi and Islamabad, Sheikh Nazir said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were the biggest beneficiaries of peace between the two countries but were also unfortunately the worst victims of animosity between the two neighbors. He said that both countries should understand the importance of mutual cooperation for the entire South Asian region and especially for the people of J&K and take bold, paradigm initiatives to come closer to each other in an era of growth and development.
Sheikh Nazir Ahmed said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had made repeated overtures to India to engage in fruitful talks and dialogue after becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan but since elections were around the corner in India – there wasn’t a bold response from New Delhi. The time has come when New Delhi and Islamabad should work together and reciprocate each other’s urge for peace and brotherhood in the region, he added.
Sheikh Nazir Ahmed implored party workers to leave no stone unturned to serve the people of the State as the voice of the people was the voice of God and the needs of the common masses should come first.
