WATKULU, (Chrar-e-Sharif), June 5: National Conference today said the Government’s crackdown on separatist leaders, including Yasin Malik had exposed the PDP’s claims of facilitating a political engagement between the Hurriyat leaders and New Delhi.
Addressing a workers’ convention for Block Hafru Batpora at Watkulu, Chrar-e-Sharief, senior NC leader and former Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said that PDP’s ‘Battle of Ideas’ had turned out to be a vicious and retributive ‘Battle against Ideas’.
NC State spokesperson , Junaid Azim Mattu, also addressed the convention and lashed out at Mehbooba Mufti for resorting to retributive arrests and attacks on Hurriyat leaders The convention was also addressed by senior NC leaders MLC Ali Mohammad Dar and provincial secretary Advocate Showkat Ahmed Mir besides various party leaders and office bearers.
“Rather than trying to facilitate talks between Hurriyat leaders and New Delhi, Mehbooba Mufti has taken upon herself the task to appease the BJP and RSS by ordering retributive action and crackdowns on the homes of Hurriyat leaders. Engaging with the Hurriyat was a mainstay of the PDP-BJP ‘Agenda of the Alliance’ and like every other promise, this promise too has crumbled to dust within the very first year of this opportunistic alliance”, Mr Rather said.
The NC leader further alleged that both in 2002, when PDP came to power with Congress and in 2014 when PDP joined the BJP, it has effortlessly given up on the demand to get AFSPA revoked in exchange for the Chief Minister’s chair.
The former Finance Minister also termed the 2016 Budget recommendations as inflationary and visionless. “This Budget would compound the problems of the common-man and also further complicate the bottlenecks in the system that Dr Drabu claims to want to resolve,” he said
