NC pays tributes to Mirza Afzal Beg, GM Shah

SRINAGAR, June 12: National Conference today commemorated the death anniversaries of NC stalwarts Late Mirza Afzal Beg and Late Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah at a function organized at NC headquarters here today.
Addressing party workers on the occasion, NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said that National Conference had an unparalleled legacy of statesmanship of both Late Beg Sahab and Shah Sahab, who rendered selfless service.
“Lt Beg Sahab and Lt Shah Sahab were tall NC stalwarts who always stood up for the honor and dignity of this State and its people. Mr Beg’s iconic contribution in the land-to-the-tiller reforms and his unflinching support to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah would go down in history as a tale of courage and conviction.
“Similarly Lt Mohuiddin Shah’s role in the Autonomy movement and struggle led by National Conference has been historic. His role in strengthening NC at the grass-root level has been commendable and exemplary and needs to be emulated in letter and spirit by all of us today”, Mr Sagar said.
Speaking on the occasion, NC provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani paid glowing tributes to Lt Beg and Lt GM Shah and called on the workers of the party to ensure that this glorious legacy continues.. “They stood up for the honor and dignity of the people and the State and preferred jail terms over surrender. They both rendered enormous sacrifices for the people of this State and it is because of such towering leaders and because of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah that J&K continues to enjoy a special status and continues to keep alive its fight for Autonomy and empowerment”, Wani said.
Various senior NC leaders who joined in paying tributes included Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Mubarak Gul, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Sakina Ittoo, Irfan Ahmed Shah, Junaid Mattu, Peer Mohammad Afaq, Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon, Showkat Ahmed Mir and others.
