JAMMU Sept 8: National Conference leaders today paid glorious tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on his 39th death anniversary and took pledge to uphold and preserve the legacy of amity, brotherhood and communal harmony bequeathed by the towering leader of the sub-continent.
“Strengthening the bonds of amity and brotherhood will be biggest tribute to Sher-i-Kashmir, who strived all his life for harmony among different segments of society and unity between the regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir”, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said while leading the party cadre and leadership in paying homage to Sheikih Sahib at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning.
Describing Sher-e-Kashmir as one of tallest leaders of the era of Mahatma Gandhi and Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, the Provincial President said his secular and progressive outlook will continue to be a source of inspiration for generations.
He threw light on various facets of Sher-i-Kashmir’s life and recalled his sacrifice and contribution to ameliorate the lot of people, especially those belonging to weaker and down-trodden segments of society.
Speaking on the occasion, former minister and senior leader Ajay Kumar Sadhotra recalled the contribution of Sheikh Abdullah in ensuring equal opportunities of progress and development to all, saying he was a strong proponent of satiating the peculiar aspirations of the people of all the regions and sub-regions, irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
Mr Sadhotra said Sheikh Sahib struggled all his life for strengthening communal bonds between various sections of the society.
In his tributes, Rattan Lal Gupta described Sheikh Abdullah a visionary, who worked towards the political empowerment of people and laid sound foundations for the state to progress and develop.
Former minister and State Secretary Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari lauded the crucial role of Sheikh Abdullah in strengthening the bonds of amity, brotherhood and tranquility. He said his vision and far sight helped J&K to grow as a vibrant entity.
Provincial Youth National Conference President Ajaz Jan described SheikhAbdullah as a leader of global stature who believed in a just society where people belonging to all the religions enjoy equal opportunities of progress.
State Vice President Women Wing Bimla Luthra recalled the contribution of Sher-i-Kashmir in leading the people to the goal of political emancipation and socio-economic development, braving numerous challenges.
Paying homage to the late leader, Provincial President NC Women Wing Satwant Kour Dogra said the best tribute to Sheikh Abdullah will be to strengthen Hindu, Muslim, Sikh amity, which is central to glorious fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior leaders Qazi Jalal Ud Din, Bushan Lal Bhat, Bimla Luthra, Vijay Laxami Dutta, Vijay Lochan, Anil Dhar, Abdul Gani Teli, Swaran Latta, Dr. Gagan Bhagat, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal, Reeta Gupta, Nar Singh, G.H Malik, Riaz Ahmed, Ch. Riaz Ahmed, Ashok Dogra, Waris Gill, Rakesh Singh Raka, Shabir Sambyal, Rohit Bali, S. Tejinder Singh, Abid Magrey, Farooq Mughal, Nitish Goswami, Zamir Quershi, Karan Singh, Aman, Som Raj Taroch, Ashanand, Sain Dass, Asha Mehra, Mudit, Tanveer Bazada and others also paid tributes to Sheikh Sahib.
Earlier, flower tributes were paid to the late leader and Quran Khwani held at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhavan.
