JAMMU, Mar 20: Massive protests erupted across the Jammu region on Wednesday against aggressive posturing and unbecoming behaviour of Jugal Kishore Sharma, State President of BJP with senior National Conference leader and Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo yesterday. Protests were held in Kathua, Jammu City, Nagrota, Udhampur and Batote.
National Conference activists led by MLA Bimla Luthra held a massive demonstration outside the BJP headquarters in Kachi Chawni, condemning the act and demanding the removal of Jugal Kishore from the post he has been holding in the party. The speakers sought unconditional apology from the BJP top brass including President Raj Nath Singh and Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj.
A demonstration was also held at Janipur by Women National Conference activists led by Provincial President Vijay Laxmi Dutta. She decried the unparliamentarily behaviour of the MLA towards a lady Minister, saying this is insult to the entire women folk of the State, irrespective of their affiliations. She urged women as a whole to raise their collective voice against such indecent behaviour by a leader of supposedly responsible party.
Senior leaders Chander Mohan Sharma and Dhramveer Singh Jamwal led the agitated workers at Indira Chowk and condemned the incident involving senior BJP leader of the State. The workers kept chanting slogans against Jugal Kishore and senior BJP leaders for their silence, which they observed reflected their endorsement to the unbecoming act.
At Jammu University Campus, National Conference Students Union led by President Rakesh Chib held massive demonstrations, raising slogans against Jugal Kishore.
The Youth National Conference rally passed through Rathunath Bazar and culminated at City Chowk. Later an effigy of Jugal Kishore was also torched.
On Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, demonstrations were held at Nagrota, Udhampur and Batote, resulting in disruption of the vehicular movement for about 45 minutes.
Nagrota witnessed massive demonstrations by women workers of the party who kept chanting slogans against Jugal Kishore.
Protests were also held at Batote where National Conference workers, large number of them women, held demonstrations and staged a peaceful dharna in protest against the Assembly episode, involving Jugal Kishore showing disrespect to Sakina Itoo.
