JAMMU, Sept 7: National Conference (NC) state secretary, Rattan Lal Gupta and women wing state vice president, Bimla Luthra today called for greater involvement of women and weaker sections in decision making for harmonious growth of the society.
Addressing newly elected delegates of women wing here, Gupta said that political empowerment of women is imperative so that they can play their role in bettering the lot of major chunk of female population.
He claimed that during its tenure in the Government NC reserved 50 per cent medical seats for girls.
Speaking on the occasion, Bimla Luthra said NC has always remained in the forefront to ensure social justice and welfare of marginalized segments of the society.
She referred to the Land Reforms Act brought by Sheikh Mohd Abdullah and said that it benefitted peasants, backward classes, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe the most.
Luthra urged party workers to work for strengthening NC at grass roots level.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, provincial secretary; Vijay Laxami Dutta, vice president Jammu province; Vijay Lochan, co-chairman SC Cell, Hardyal, Bharti, Jyoti, Reeta, Neelu and others.
