SRINAGAR, Jan 13: National Conference today  reiterated its commitment of playing a constructive role in empowering the weaker sections of the society particularly the women folk.
Addressing one day convention of party’s Women’s Wing at NC headquarters here, the party general secretary and former Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar exhorted the vital role played by women in the social, academic, cultural and economic progress of the State. He said, “National Conference is proud to have a robust, vital Women’s Wing which has strengthened the party at every crucial juncture.  Women who constitute almost half of the States population have always stood behind the tall leadership of  Sheikh Abdullah and now they have same kind of affection for Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah as well,” Mr Sagar said.
The NC leader said that Madar-e-Meharbaan Begum Akbar Jehan was a role-model for JK women as her vision for their emancipation and education had guided thousands of young girls and women towards prosperity and progress.  Sagar lauded the role played by Begum Abdullah in heralding the cause of women’s education and said the ‘Naya Kashmir’ vision document clearly outlined the vision of the party for the up-liftment of women folk.
Provincial president NC Women’s wing and MLA Habba Kadal Shameema Firdous while speaking on the occasion asked the party cadre to strengthen party at grassroot level. “NC has always worked towards empowering women folk in Kashmir. History is testimony to that, ” Shameema added.
“Conspiracies are being hatched to bring Kashmir and Jammu at loggerheads by elements inimical to peace and prosperity of the State. It is with this design that Kashmiris are being asked to accept things which are detrimental to prosperity of our society. NFSA is one such thing. Flood victims have been completely ignored and the situation as far as power is concerned is equally grim. We will continue to oppose such undemocratic moves,” she said.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Provincial secretary Showkat Mir, MLA Homshalibugh Ab Majeed Bhat (Larmi), NC Provincial spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar,  Shabeena and Khalida.
