JAMMU, Aug 18: BJP today criticized the National Conference (NC) leaders for launching a misinformation campaign against the Party and termed it an epitome of opportunism which is responsible for introducing in State politics a culture of aligning itself with any political party that comes to power at the Centre.
Taking serious exception to disinformation campaign launched by NC against the BJP, its State president Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters here today the present Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah was a Minister in the BJP led NDA Government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and soon after the NDA lost the power at Centre, Mr Abdullah took refuge in UPA led by Congress in order to come to power in J&K and ensure a ministerial berth for Party patriarch Dr Farooq Abdullah at Centre.
Lambasting the NC leadership Manhas said that they have no moral right to pass comments on BJP which is a party of principles and a firm ideology while NC from the days of former Chief Minister, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah has misled the people on the name of plebiscite, autonomy etc but it is not ready to leave the power when it was snubbed by the Union Government on both these issues.
Manhas asked the Chief Minister to clear his stand on several provocative issues raised by him from time to time instead of changing his stand every now and then. He reminded the Chief Minister that while in his Independence Day address last year he vowed to get the AFSPA immediately revoked, in his Independence Day address this year has himself conceded that AFSPA can’t go for time being.
Moreover on the issue of Amarnath yatra the Chief Minister and his other Party men have been given provocative statements which clearly indicate that the NC leaders indulge in childish acts. It seems the Party has lost the balance because of its extreme frustration, he added.
Manhas advised the NC leadership to set its own house in order instead of trying to attack BJP just to remain in news and divert attention of masses from the Government’s failures on all fronts.
BJP State general secretaries, Satish Sharma and Sat Sharma (CA) were present in the press conference.
