JAMMU June 6: National Conference has expressed serious concern over unscheduled and long power curtailment in the entire Jammu province and blamed the PDP-BJP coalition for subjecting people to worse kind of harassment during the ongoing scorching summer season.
“The proponents of ‘Ache Din’ seem to have declared power holiday for Jammu region while taking time out to cool their heels in the Kashmir Valley”, the NC leaders said in a joint statement, adding that lack of political direction has rendered the administration in shambles.
They said that long duration black outs are giving sleepless nights to residents, who are forced to remain outdoors and stage night-long protests. “The power scenario is highly precarious, which has made life horrible as the region is reeling under unprecedented heat these days”, they said and rued over low voltage whenever power is made available during the brief spells.
The NC leaders came down heavily on the PDP-BJP Government for failing in meeting the basic requirements like power and drinking water and questioned its tall claims about difference in governance. “The only difference visible is that the Government seems to have gone on a long vacation, leaving people to fend for themselves”, they added.
While seeking regulated power supply, the NC leaders sought deployment of tankers to cater to the needs of areas which are facing acute drinking water crisis. The water supply is also getting impacted in absence of power supply in urban areas and the people remain clueless on these basic necessities.
Taking jibe at BJP, the NC advised its leaders to come out of agitational politics syndrome, which they have played for nearly seven decades and come to brass tracks of governance, as reactionary slogans and hollow promises could no more meet the needs of the people.
Besides Provincial president Devender Singh Rana, signatories to joint statement included former ministers Surjeet Singh Slathia, Ajay Sadhotra, Abdul Gani Malik, Sajjad Kitchloo, Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy; senior leaders – Rattan Lal Gupta, Kashmira Singh, Rachpal Singh, Dr Kamal Arora, Aijaz Jan, Bimla Luthra, Master Noor Hussain, Babu Ram Paul, Brij Mohan Sharma, Qazi Jalal-ud-Din, Dr Chaman Lal, Deepender Kour, Satwant Kour Dogra, Vijay Laxmi Dutta, Jagjeevan Lal, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal, Satpal Lakhotra, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Jugal Mahajan, Gurdeep Singh Sasan, Bushan Lal Bhat, Bashir Ahmed Wani, Anil Dhar, Ch Haroon and others.
