Navy to have indigenously made diver detection Sonar

NEW DELHI: To give a boost to Buy and Make Indian drive, the Navy on Thursday went for an indigenous defence equipment ? a Portable Diver Detection Sonar(PDDS), which would enhance underwater surveillance capability.
A contract for the equipment was signed with the Tata Power Strategic Engineering Division.
This is the second contract to be signed to boost Government’s Defence indigenisation effort. The maiden contract under this category was also signed earlier this year by the Navy for supply of Surface Surveillance Radar for IN warships.
Portable Diver Detection Sonar would be manufactured by Tata Power SED in India at their facility at Bengaluru with Transfer of Technology from DSIT Israel.
Induction of Portable Diver Detection Sonar would further enhance the Navy’s Underwater Surveillance Capability in the field of Low Intensity Maritime Operations. Procurement of these sonars for utilisation onboard ships is being undertaken by the Indian Navy to augment countermeasures against asymmetric threats. (AGENCIES)
