Navy chief visits Siachen, interacts with troops

SRINAGAR, July 23: Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) and Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) today visited Siachen Glacier where he interacted with the troops and met Marine Commandos in the Wullar lake in Sopore area of North Kashmir.
The Navy chief visited the highest battle field in the world this morning and interacted with the troops. He lauded their role in performing their duties in the hostile weather conditions where troops suffer more casualties in fighting weather than the enemy.
Admiral Lanba also lauded the dedication of the troops and zeal with which they are performing the duties in the icy weather conditions. He was accompanied by 15 Corps Commander, Lt General S K Upadhyay who briefed him about the preparedness of the troops deployed at the Siachen glacier.
Earlier, accompanied by Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander, the Navy Chief  visited Watlab Ghat in Sopore area of North Kashmir today where he was briefed by the Marine Commandos (MARCOS) on their operational role in the Valley.
Admiral Lanba was given an update on the various operations and initiatives undertaken by the MARCOS in countering terrorism in and around the Wular Lake region. The MARCOS are conducting operations in the Wullar lake and also assisting Army in their operations in the forests of Banidpora.
The Marine Commandos have also been extending support to civil administration whenever required and act as one of the first respondents in situations like drowning cases.
During his interaction with the Marine Commandos, the Navy chief lauded them for their high levels of morale and exhorted them to continue to work in synergy with the Army with same zeal and dedication to defeat enemy’s hostile designs.
Admiral Lanba also lauded the excellent synergy existing amongst all the security forces in the Valley.
