Nature’s fury !

Sir,
Unprecedented flood situation is heart breaking and heart burning. Only in Jammu province official death toll has crossed two hundred fifty and more dead bodies are to be recovered for which efforts are going on war footing.
Two main things are responsible in addition to nature’s fury.  Firstly, the weather changing syndrome is on the increase; secondly, the State Government slept over Centre Water Commission’s warnings. Perhaps there is no functional National Disaster Department. It is difficult to dig a well at the time of fire.
The only comfort in this hour of pain, grief and desparation is the commendable role of Govt of India that pressed all its resources into action.
Natures’ fury is beyond ones control but to face it bravely is in the hands of a Nation represented by the Govt. Man made disaster viz communal sectarian, linguistic and racial riots cause untold miseries to humans. But the victims are not attended  to in this way which is a matter of regret.
We pray that normalcy is restored and the flood victims are rehabilitated in their respective homes. God may give courage to the sufferers and patience to combat the nature’s fury.

Sir,
The landslides and floods triggered due to torrential and incessant rain that lashed almost the entire state of Jammu & Kashmir for about four -five days and wrecked tremendous havoc causing heavy loss of life and property, has once again made all of us realise how vulnerable we are to the vagaries of Nature.
In Jammu division too, heavy loss of life and property has been caused but the life is slowly limping back to normalcy but situation in Srinagar and other areas continues to be alarming. There is also a danger of an epidemic spreading in the area and a huge stock of medicines is required.
Massive relief and rescue operations by the Union and State Government, Army, Air Force, NDRF Marine Commandos etc.are on and lakhs of stranded people rescued and relief material including food, blankets, medicines etc has been distributed to the flood affected people. But a calamity of such a huge magnitude requires national response and the joint efforts of all to provide assistance to the flood victims to enable them to come out of the shock and take them to safer places. It becomes the duty of everyone to pool our resources to help the victims of w orst ever floods in recent memory.
Thus the need of the hour is to assist the Government in carrying relief and rescue operations and donate liberally to help the flood victims by providing them relief and succor .There is no act nobler than serving humanity in need and want.

Sir,
The proposition “Mysterious are the ways of nature” stands fully substantiated in our State of J&K. The heaven on earth together with the entire indivisible land mass of Jammu and  POJK has been hard hit by nature’s worst ever devastating fury. The explosive outburst of nature has been unprecedented this time which constrains us to do the brain storming for understanding the underlying factors and fundamentals of the tragedy and work out the possible solution to counteract the killing impact of the inferno and avert its recurrence in future. First of all we have to evaluate our immediate state of preparedness and promptness to respond to this natural calamity.
Contrary to the behaviour and practice of other nations we seriously lack a faculty to learn lessons from the past mistakes and turn a deaf ear to the alarm bells of nature. We simply keep on harping about trivial issues of partisan politics to grind our own axe at the cost of national and public interest. Kashmir tragedy must be taken as a final call. We need to cultivate a nature friendly mind set. Unbridled urbanization and encroachments by vested interest in the vicinity of rivers and mountains will have to be controlled. Focus must turn on Disaster Management techniques adopted by foreign countries. Development is need of the hour but it presupposes wisdom and long term implications. At this crucial juncture the constituency funds of MLAS and MPS must be pooled together for managing the aftermath of the tragedy. If Japan, Israel and others can do it, why cannot India do it under the vibrant leadership of Modi.
