JAMMU, June 10: ‘Natrang’s Summer Theatre Workshop- 2016, was inaugurated here today at Natrang studio Theatre, Kachi Chawni with the lighting of traditional lamp by Natrang Director Padamshree Balwant Thakur.
This is the 26th year of Natrang’s Children Theatre Wing which was started in the year 1990 and since then, annual Summer Theatre camp has been a regular feature of Natrang’s activities. The period of Summers Vacations is especially dedicated for Children Theatre every year by Natrang as this is the only time when the children have so many days in continuity to learn, explore and improve their personalities in a fun-filled creative ambience.
The children Theatre Camp-2016 is also special as Devika Ranjan a US citizen with Indian origin, an accomplished expert of children theatre would conduct classes for 20 days continuously in this workshop.
She is a visiting scholar from the United States, and will be researching Natrang’s use of theatre in community engagement. She Studies at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, Washington DC where she focuses on “Human Rights, Culture, and Communication.”
She has a strong theatrical background in acting at both at community and university level. She has directed two full-length plays, devised a work based on ethnographic poetry, and written a one-act play.
Other than this, Children would be exposed to various theatre games and activities which help in grooming their personalities. A new full-length play would also be prepared by the participants during Natrang’s Theatre Camp-2016 which would be presented before the larger number of audience at Abhinav Theatre Jammu, who get a chance to watch a wonderful children’s play every year as the outcome of the summer theatrecamp.
The training module has been designed by Balwant Thakur, who has taken the children theatre of Jammu to the entire length and breadth of the Country.
The participants who attended the inaugural session included Ishwari Goswami , Riya Jandial, Disha Trehan, Yashika Bandral, Gun Sethi, Hardik Dutta, Vedhant Suri, Vaibhav Suri, Shruti Sharma, Aviral Kapoor, Rudra Kohli, Hardik Gupta, Anubhav Sharma, Sohi Sharma, Samvedya Gupta, Aanandita Sethi, Sparshita Sharma, Kushaan Baliya , Triambak Kapoor, Riya Sambyal, Aryan Sharma, Saransh Sharma, Asma Gul and Vrinda Pawar.
