JAMMU, Nov 3: Theatre Group ‘Natrang’ here today staged Pratap Sehgal’s play ‘Ladai’ directed by Neeraj Kant.
The play showcases casteism as a social evil in our society and opens with two childhood lovers, Madhu and Manish, recalling their high school memories and cherishing the beautiful time they spent together. Madhu persuades Manish to talk his mother for their marriage who then tries so and informs his mom that Madhu is from to a low caste family. Being of orthodox mindset, the mother denies permission following which Manish leaves the house and the perplexed mother asks her elder son to go and look for Manish.
In the next scene Manish appears having a word with Madhu’s father assuring him that he doesn’t believe in caste patriarchy. After solemnising marriage Manish and Madhu returns back home fearing of not getting accepted by former’s mother but surprisingly both receive warm welcome from the mother. Confusion of the couple is cleared by Manish’s elder brother who tells them that his uncle convinced his mother to accept Madhu as their daughter in law.
Actors who performed in the play were Sushant Singh Charak, Sumit Raina, Kananpreet Kaur, Kuldeep Angral and Arti Devi. Lights were operated by Neeraj Kant, music by Aakash Wadhwan and the show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen while the presentations were done by Gauri Thakur.
