JAMMU, Oct 7: Natrang’s Sunday Theatre witnessed a full-length play ‘Bazzi’ based on world classic ‘The Bet’ written by Russia’s most celebrated writer Anton Chekov under the direction of Anil Tickoo. Today’s presentation came out to be one of the most intense theatrical experiences, which won the appreciation of the audience.
Before the beginning of the play, Natrang artists condoled the untimely demise of on of the prominent theatre and TV actor, Raj Singh Jamwal.
Today’s play ‘Bazzi’ based on ‘The Bet’ emphasizes the idea that the life of a human is far more valuable than money. In the story, ‘The Bet’ a wager makes that changed the lives of two people. The story begins with an argument at a party over ‘which is more moral—capital punishment or life punishment’. The banker believes that capital punishment is more moral because the death sentence kills the victim quicker rather than dragging out the process.
The lawyer at the party responds, saying, he would choose the life sentence to be more moral because any life is better than no life at all. Hearing this response makes the banker to bet the lawyer two million dollars that the lawyer cannot last five years in solitary confinement. The lawyer accepts the wager, but pushes it to fifteen years in hopes of making a point. The terms of the wager are that the lawyer is to live in solitary confinement without any human interaction for fifteen years, but is granted any books, music, wine, or anything that he wants. As the fifteen years pass, the lawyer discovers the significance of human life. ‘The Bet’ emphasizes the idea that the human life if far more valuable than money.
The young team of Natrang actors demonstrated their versatility and professionalism in acting, particularly the two lead characters on whom the whole story revolved, were efficiently played by Rahul Singh and Balwinder Singh. They were outstandingly supported by Rohit Verma and Ashwani Bali. The lights were designed by Anil Tickoo and executed by Sushil Raina while the music was brilliantly scored by Uplaksh Singh Kotwal.
Offstage support in sets and coordination was rendered by Anita Dhar and Mohd Yasin. Vikram Sharma did the presentations of the show.
