JAMMU, Mar 29: On the third-day of Natrang Theatre Festival -2014, Natrang presented four short plays performed by the children of its Spring Theatre Camp.
This ten-day spring camp began on March 20 and culminated here today with these presentations. The four short plays performed in the Natrang Studio were developed under the process of improvisations and were designed and directed by the kids themselves.
The first short play ”Tap Tapa Ka dar” revolved around a story of an old lady who in order to save her grandchildren from the lion tells a story. This story is actually overheard by the lion and he is confused and frightened from an imaginary being ‘Tip Tipa’ which actually does not exist. The participants of this skit were Gopi Sharma, Sanchita Dubey, Shriya Gupta, Asma Gul, Manya Gujral, Sushant, Sushane Dullo, Shruti Bhasin, Aagya Manahas, Ameya Langer, Rouvin Koul. The second skit, ‘Thankless Friend’ tells us a story of a man who helps a goldsmith but his kind deed is forgotten by the goldsmith.
The participants of this skit were Mahir Gujral, Sayam Gupta, Rishabh Sharma, Abhay Veer Singh, Chander Pratap Singh, Tanu Bakshi, Niddyant Jamwal, Ayushi Manhas, Arsh Vimal, Aryansh Vimal. The third skit is ‘Do Behne’ which tells us the story of two sisters who go to a village to find work and their different approach towards life leads them to drastically different faiths. The participants of this skit were Laith August Sharma, Agam Kaur, Anirudh Bhatia, Shirya Gandotra, Praneel Sharma, Samir Sharma, Shreenidhi Chandail, Jayashree Langer. The fourth skit, ‘Sir John’s Ghost’ was a story of two girls who join a new school and they are being scared by the boys in the hostel. Seeing this, the ghost of Sir John is offended and he teaches a lesson to the boys. The participants of this skit were Sabha Jamwal, Anandita Rathore, Swrinay Jain, Shubhkit, Rashmica Nagpal, Dishant Khajuria, Varun Jamwal, Hamaad Salif, Kaustubh Sharma.
More than 40 children were a part of the workshop. During this workshop the kids were exposed to various theatre activities and games that were meant to encourage their creativity and their talents. The main focus of this workshop was to work individually on each kid and explore their self-actualisation.
The weekend club which will begin in the first week of April is a new initiative by Natrang where the children will meet every Saturday and Sundays to learn acting, painting, dance and music. Each Sunday the kids will also be watching a play performed by Natrang’s professional actors.
