JAMMU, Nov 6: In its persistent effort to make people aware about the culture, heritage and history of Jammu and Kashmir, Natrang organized a special screening of the movie ‘Gulab Gatha’ for the students of IIT Jammu.
The show started with a comprehensive briefing about the movie and an orientation workshop. The screening was also very special as it was witnessed by house full of students from different States of the Country who were very much enthused to watch the movie which has cultural and regional historical importance.
Conceptualized, designed and directed by the son of the soil Balwant Thakur, who is presently Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa, Johannesburg, this film was sponsored by Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust.
Sharing his views Balwant Thakur said that unfortunately J&K is the only State of Indian union where local history and culture is not taught to the students for obvious reasons. To make the younger generations aware of their rich past and also to sensitize them about the making of this State, Natrang with the help of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust took this initiative to produce a film and now is being taken to every individual.
The film ‘Gulab Gatha’ is about the journey of a soldier who achieves great success at everything he initiated. His unquestionable obligatory obedience towards Lahore Durbar, his unconditional sacrifice and his conception of a kingdom has been regarded in this film. Gulab Singh was a normal person with no lineage of royalty but he established himself as a King with the help of his bravery and continued to keep a hold on his empire because of his well-planned strategic and diplomatic intelligence.
Sumeet Sharma was the resource person of the orientation workshop. The event was coordinated by Naveen Kumar, student coordinator of Film Making Club under the supervision of HoD and Faculty In-Charge Dr Quleen Kaur Bijral, IIT Jammu. Dean, SW office, Prof Javagal Sridhar and AD, Dr Vijay Pal inaugurated the event on a high cultural note.
