JAMMU, Mar 23: Natrang staged Hindi play ‘Hamein Bolne Do’ in its weekly series Sunday Theatre here today.
Written by Rajesh Kumar and directed by Anil Tickoo, the play is a satire on our present political scenario showing how press is being utilized by some leaders for projecting their personal agenda and whenever it tries to reflect upon the social evils prevailing in the society in spotlight, it is stopped by the leaders and they call it yellow journalism.
The play starts with a hawker shouting ‘Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar’ and slowly gives audience an ideal situation where everything is transparently coming before public through responsible press media. Public can easily see the naked politicians, their crooked actions and the details of wealth and assets they have accumulated by exploiting their official position.
But suddenly the scene shifts to a real situation where few press people have mustered the courage to just suggestively try to attract the public’s attention towards few of the misdeeds of the politicians. Sensing trouble, the politicians manage the Government to come out with an ordinance curbing the freedom of press. Making press responsible for all the law and order problems, their freedom of expression is limited to glorify politicians. An advisory is also issued where they are advised to project them as the ultimate reformers of the society.
But the responsible press is not ready to succumb by this black law and they start a movement with the title ‘Humein Bolne Do’ and the fight continues. The subsidies are stopped, advertisements are banned and the special privileges are put to halt. Many are jailed, cases are framed, presses are sealed, the papers are seized and the channels are blocked but the fight continues.
Those who performed in the play includes Rajan Thakyal, Anmol Pandita, Syed Mudassar, Shivam Bhat, Pankaj Verma and Varun Sharma. Makhishit Singh did the presentations and Neeraj Kant managed the light and sound of the play. The show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen.
