JAMMU, May 2: Natrang organized the first ever Cartooning workshop for its Children’s Weekend club here today at Natrang Studio Theatre.
The workshop was conducted by prominent cartoonist of the country, Chander Shekhar popularly known as Bunty Cartoonist who has brought Jammu to the National/International limelight through his unique creations of cartoons.
He also holds the credit of curating the 1st ever International exhibition of cartoons which was organized both in Jammu and Srinagar under the aegis of Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
The focus of today’s workshop was to attract the interest of children towards this greatest art of cartooning which can magically enhance the, creativity and imagination of the children. This art of cartooning develops a sense of wit-the keen perception and cleverly apt expression of those connections between ideas that awaken amusement and pleasure.
Speaking about the art of cartooning, the Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur, said that cartoons have always attracted the child’s eye and been an important part in enhancing a child’s imagination. Cartoons have been seen as ‘humour with a pinch of salt’ that not only is a creative medium to communicate but also a visual semiotics and visual persuasion medium.
Cartooning not only is a part of a broader art form but is also an important medium for framing social issues. It is not only a deep reflection to the society but is also a visual treat to a reader. This perception may be related to the fact that in an art form, cartooning is very natural as a visual art. It not only offers an analytic communication but is also an easy to understand medium of communication.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Anil Tickoo, Neeraj Kant, Sumeet Sharma, Aarushi Thakur, Mohd Yaseen, Mahikshit Singh and Ankush Lakhnotra.
