JAMMU, Mar 27: Keeping the prevailing situation in mind where social distancing is the only way to avoid the spread of Coronavirus and respecting the present lockdown orders, Natrang Jammu observed ‘World Theatre Day’ in a unique manner by organising a ‘Video-Conference’ with the title ‘Theatre From Distance’, here today.
The Conference was initiated by Director Natrang, Balwant Thakur (Cultural Diplomat of India at South Africa).
It is pertinent to mention here that like many other prominent feats, Natrang pioneered celebration of ‘World Theatre Day’ in J&K since 1985 and continued this tradition till date by holding seminars, presentations, festivals and events to mark this International day.
Thakur said, “In wake of COVID-19 outbreak, this year we are deliberately omitting the word ‘Celebration’ and as a mark of solidarity, we are observing it by keeping Social Distancing intact”.
World Theatre Day was initiated in the year 1961 by the International Theatre Institute, Paris and is celebrated every year on March 27 across the world.
Natrang artists who participated in the Conference included Suresh Kumar, Mipham Otsal, Neeraj Kant, Anil Tickoo, Sanjeev Gupta, Vikrant Sharma, Sumeet Sharma, Aarushi Thakur, Mohd Yaseen and Gauri Thakur.
