JAMMU, June 3: Jammu and Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts (JKCCA) opened its National Women Painters Workshop at JKTDC Tourist Complex Akhnoor today.
The workshop was inaugurated by Rajeev Sharma MLA as chief guest. Jang S Verman, senior artist and columnist on Art and Culture, was the guest of honour whereas O P Shakir, Urdu writer was the special guest.
The artists from different parts of the country who are participating in this workshop included Gaytri from Hoshiarpur, Nisha from Phagwara, Harsimrat Kaur from Jalandhar, Minu Dey from Kolkata, Preeti Sharma from New Delhi, Dr Mamta Singh from Dehradun, Arti Rakesh Jamwal from Akhnoor, Sunita Gandhi, Amrit Kaur, Auradha Devi and Raj Bharti from Jammu.
During the workshop the artists would have ample opportunity to interact with one another about their concepts, vision, mediums and techniques. Many further programmes may be chalked out of these interactions, hence giving the participants to get more chances of exchange of their views and techniques.
Earlier, welcoming the guests O P Sharma expressed his happiness that participants from many parts of the country are participating in this workshop in spite of odd season conditions. He explained the aims and objectives of JKCCA to the guests. He said that the main emphasis of the organization is to protect and promote art, culture and languages in general and visual arts in particular.
MLA Rajeev Sharma in his address said that Akhnoor has got the historical background and existence. He appreciated the efforts of JKCCA to bring art activity of national level to Akhnoor. He said that he would extend every possible help in such art and culture activities to be organized at Akhnoor or the area in future.
Raj Bharti, Jang S Verman, O P Shakir and Gaytri also expressed their views in the programme.
