National seminar on ‘Rethinking Teacher Education in 21st Century’ held

Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, June 15: Bhartiya College of Education organized one day national seminar on “Rethinking Teacher Education in 21st Century”, in which leading academicians, practitioners, professors from different States and students of the host college participated. Farooq Khan, Director Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) inaugurated the seminar. While speaking, Khan asked the participants to come out with the findings which a teacher requires in 21st Century so that the real purpose of teaching will be realized. Dr Nutan K Resutra, Principal Government Degree College Boys and Dr Yudhvir Singh, Principal Government College for Women, were the guests of honour. During the seminar, various issues were discussed including Social transformation through effective teacher education in global context, Teacher Education in J&K: Problems and Prospects, Technology intervention in Teacher Education, Quality concerns in Teacher Education system, Teacher Educators: Empowerment through capacity building measures, Gender perspective in Teacher Education, Teacher Education through distance mode and Strengthening Public-Private partnership in Teacher Education. These sub-themes were discussed across four technical tracks, expert panel deliberations and in the opening and closing sessions of the seminar. The souvenir in the form of book of abstracts was also released. A cultural item was also presented by students, which was appreciated by the gathering. On the valedictory function, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director, IQAC, University of Jammu was the chief guest, who while speaking emphasized on the use of technology for effective teaching learning programmes. A general report of the seminar was given by Prof Sonia Bakshi, followed by the distribution of certificates. Earlier, Prof Sukham Chand, Principal of the host college presented the welcome address, whereas, in the end, Prof Samiksha Raina presented vote of thanks.
