JAMMU, Mar 16: A two-day National Seminar on Geology and Climate of Himalaya organized by the Department of Geology, University of Jammu concluded here this afternoon.
Prof Jigar Mohammed, the Dean Research studies and chief guest of the valedictory function congratulated the awardees and complimented the department for holding the seminar on a very relevant topic.
He urged that such conglomeration of the intellectuals should be a regular
feature in any institute of high learning as it helps in dissemination of knowledge to younger generation. Dinesh V Ganvir, the Deputy Director General of Geological Survey of India was the guest of honour for the valedictory function.
While speaking on the occasion, Ganvir talked about the role of geology and how it can help in understanding the climate. He also chaired a technical session during the day.
Meenakshi of Delhi University won the best Oral Presentation award while Atjun Singh of Jammu University won the Best poster presentation award during the valedictory function of the national seminar organized by the Department of Geology, University of Jammu.
Earlier Prof Pankaj Srivastava the Convener of the seminar and Head of the Department presented the detailed report of the two days national seminar. Dr Vadim Skripkin from the Institute of Environmental Geochemistry, Ukrain delivered a key note address today on the carbon dating methods and its application in geology and archeology. In the earlier technical sessions Dr Rajesh Sharma of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, while delivering the key note address, discussed the mineral resources of Himalaya and conditions where different mineral deposits can be formed. Prof Bahadur Singh Kotlia from Kumaun University, Nainital delivered another key note address, while Dr Varun Parmar, the organizing secretary presented vote of thanks.
The seminar was attended by the large number of faculty members, scholars and students.
