National seminar on Forensic Science held

JAMMU, Aug 22: A two-day national seminar on “Emerging Trends in Crime—Challenges for Forensic Science” was organized under the chairmanship of Javeed Ahmad, Director, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NICFS), New Delhi.
All the speakers stressed that challenges ahead for FSLs were very enormous and hence urgent requirement for time bound upgradation/augmentation of all Central and State FSLs of the country was expressed. The time bound augmentation regarding human resource development and upgradation of infrastructure and machinery/equipment was vehemently highlighted by all the delegates.
Since huge technological developments were regularly happening world-wide and the criminals were getting very high-tech, it was stressed that old, worn-out and obsolete gadgetry needs to be urgently replaced with the state of the art technology, in order to examine and quickly dispose of latest hi-tech cases.
The concept of ‘Preventive Forensics’ such as introducing security features in all the important documents, certificates and communications, in order to make commission of frauds very difficult, was also discussed.
Director, NICFS, New Delhi, Javeed Ahmad, in his valedictory address, said that he will soon send a consolidated and comprehensive proposal, to Union Ministry of Home Affairs for early consideration.
The eminent persons who addressed the Forensic delegates include NR Wasan (former DG of NIA), Balwinder singh (former Special Director CBI), Dr Mb Rao (former Prof, Forensic Science, NPA Hyderabad), Dr VK Kashyap (former Chief Forensic Scientist, Directorate of Forensic Science, New Delhi), Dr Sr Singh (former Director CFSL, CBI, New Delhi), Dr BB Arora (Director FSL, Jaipur) and Pawan Diggal (Cyber Consultant and Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India).
