National Science Day celebrated

JAMMU, Feb 28: To mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian Physicist Sir, C V Raman, National Science Day was celebrated today by various educational institutions with basic objective to spread the message of importance of science and its application among the people.
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu celebrated National Science Day 2021 by organizing a function having theme “Future of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI): Impacts on Education, Skills and Work”.
Dr R C Agrawal, DDG, (Education), ICAR, New Delhi was chief guest on the occasion and he said that education development should be organic and holistic. Dr Sudershan Kumar, Ex DG, DRDO was guest of honour and delivered his lecture on Role of Science in making India Self-Reliant. Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu spoke about their initiatives and achievements.
On the occasion, three books namely ‘Women Empowerment’ by Dr Jag Paul Sharma; ‘Plant Abiotic Stress Tolerance’ by Dr G K Rai and ‘Dairying in India and J&K’ by Drs Biswajit Brahma, Pranav Kumar and Dibyendu Chakraborty were released on the occasion. Besides, Dr Rajiv Singh, Dr R K Gupta and Dr Vikas Abrol were conferred with Star Scientist award of SKUAST-Jammu.
Department of Mathematics, School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu organized a seminar on National Science Day. Prof Bhupinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs was chief guest in the programme and he said that no science is complete without mathematics.
Prof Rakesh Kumar from Namibia University of Science and Technology, Windhoek, Namibia, was the key-note speaker and he spoke on the theme “Mathematics: As a Carrier and Job opportunities”. Prof Navneet Lal Sharma from Amity University, Haryana presented an invited talk on “Carrier Opportunities – An Academic Journey”.
In this programme students gave their presentations on the theme “Role of Mathematics in the advancement of Science”. Shrenya , Tejasvi, Divya Surmal, and Taniya Gupta got first, second, third and fourth position respectively in the students seminar.
To celebrate National Science Day, Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, near Chandigarh organized a webinar & poster presentation activity.
Dr Hari Om Chauhan, Application Specialist in Bio Analytical Technology interacted with the faculty members & Aryans students of Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Law, Management, Education and Agriculture & spoke on “Techniques & Equipments used to Improve Quality of Medicine”. Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar.
On National Science Day, IETE Student Chapter at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) Jammu, organized a technical programme to commemorate the historic invention of Raman Effect by Bharat Ratna Dr CV Raman. During the celebrations, a Quiz Competition was organized in which over 129 students registered. Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Chairperson IETE Jammu Centre and a senior professor of Computers & IT Dept in the University of Jammu was the chief guest.
Lakshita Verma, ECE, got the first prize, whereas Ishita Moza and Achuyt Pandotra bagged the second and third prizes respectively. From Electrical Engineering Department, Ruksan-ul-Nisa got the first prize, whereas Heena Raina and Kanan Koul bagged the second and third prizes respectively.
