JAMMU, May 9: National Lok Adalat for MACT cases and insurance claims was held today at J&K High Court Srinagar and at district levels under the patronage of Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, Chief Justice, J&K High Court and Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority.
At High Court Wing Srinagar National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Judge, J&K High Court and Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority in the presence of Justice Hasnain Massodi, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, judges of Jammu & Kashmir High Court.
A total of 337 MACT cases were settled in the National Lok Adalat and an amount of Rs 13,78,43,561 was awarded as compensation to claimants.
At Kathua, National Lok Adalat was held in the District Court Complex under the chairmanship of Vinod Chatterji Koul, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Kathua. 32 cases were decided and award money to the tune of Rs 1,10,35,000 was ordered to be paid to the claimants.
At Kupwara, District Legal Services Authority conducted National Lok Adalat in the Court Complex under the chairmanship of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Handwara Choudhary Parveez Husain Kachroo while the Special Mobile Magistrate, Kralpora participated as member. 21 MACT cases were taken up out of which 4 cases were settled amicably. Rs 12.50 lakh was passed as compensation.
At Shangus, National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Altaf Khan, Munsiff and Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Shangus in which 25 cases were taken up out of which 15 cases were settled amicably.
At Udhampur, National Lok Adalat was organized at District Court Complex. 12 cases were taken up out of which 4 cases were settled for compensation amount of Rs 8.40 lakh.
At Rajouri, National Lok Adalat was held in the District Court Complex under the chairmanship of Sanjay Gupta, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority. A total of 25 MACT cases were taken up out of which 17 cases were settled and amount of Rs 38.90 lakh was awarded as compensation.
At Pulwama, National Lok Adalat was held in District Court Complex which was presided over by Abdul Rashid Malik, Principal District and Sessions Judge. 35 cases were taken up in the Lok Adalat out of which 24 cases relating the vehicular accidents were settled and an amount of Rs 1.05 crores was awarded as compensation in favour of the victims.
