National Conference begins at CUJ

JAMMU, Sept 28: Two days ‘National Conference on Emerging Trends in Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology (ETGEMB-2022)’ was organized by the Centre for Molecular Biology, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), here today.
The conference was organised in collaboration with J&K State Science and Innovation Council, DST. The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address by the Director, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed.
Vice Chancellor CUJ, Prof Sanjeev Jain presided over the event and felicitated the guests. He addressed the pool of intellectuals, scholars and students and emphasized more on the quality of research and innovations.
Prof Manoj Dhar, former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest. He advised the students to focus on the concepts of basic sciences before going towards advanced research.
Moreover, Prof HB Singh, former Professor, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU Varanasi was the invited guest of honour. He is also known as the Man of Patents and pioneer in Trichoderma research enlightened the young minds about the importance of traditional Ayurveda and plant sciences thereby connecting it to modern research.
The inaugural session started with the Sarasvati Vandana and Lamp lightning, wherein several delegates from different institutions namely ICGEB Delhi, IIIM-Jammu, SKUAST-Jammu and Kashmir, participated in the conference.
Prof BS Bhau, Dean School of Life Sciences CUJ graced the occasion, while Dr Shelly Sehgal, co-convenor of the conference proposed the formal vote of thanks.
The first technical session began with a keynote lecture by Prof Manoj Dhar on the topic, “Technologies in Demystifying Saffron; the Golden Spice”, followed by another invited lecture by Prof HB Singh titled “Intellectual Property Rights and their Importance in Research.” The invited speakers of the technical sessions were introduced by Dr. Audesh Bhat.
The second technical session began with the keynote address of Dr Kancherla Prasad, Senior Sr. CSIR IIIM as well as Dr Mohd Jamal Dar, Principal Sr. CSIR IIIM. Both the esteemed speakers were introduced by Dr Ashok Yadav. Prof. H.B Singh presided over the valedictory event.
