JAMMU, Nov 13: 5th National Ayurveda Day or Lord Shri Dhanwantri Jayanti was celebrated today with fervor by professionals and institutions of Ayurvedic System of Medicine. The theme of this year’s celebration was ‘Role of Ayurveda in the management of COVID-19’.
On the occasion, a grand programme was organized by Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine J&K and Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Jammu at Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu.
Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, was the chief guest on the occasion. The program started with Hawan, floral tributes to Lord Dhanwantri followed by lighting of traditional lamp by the chief guest and Dhanwantri Vandana.
Speaking on the occasion, Atal Dulloo said that Ayurveda is perceived as one of the most ancient and well documented systems of medicine equally relevant in modern times and its holistic approach whether for healthy individuals or for diseased ones is unparalleled.
Highlighting the importance of AYUSH investment policy notified by the H&ME Department in April 2020, Dulloo said the aim of policy is to subsidize the capital investment for opening up of AYUSH institutions, herbal manufacturing units, marketing mandi’s, processing units, etc in the private sector.
Principal Government Ayurvedic Medical College Dr Shashi Sudan, stressed on the need for integrated approach of Ayurveda and Modern Medicine in providing better health care system to the common masses while Director ISM, J&K Dr Mohan Singh, stressed on reducing the burden of disease and related morbidity and mortality by utilizing the potential of Ayurveda and exploring the potential of Ayurveda to contribute towards National Health Policy 2017 and National Health programmes.
Meanwhile, a function was also organized by Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research, Nardni, Raipur (Bantalab), to celebrate the Day. Surinder Mohan Tickoo, Assistant Drug Controller, J&K, was the chief guest on the occasion. Tariq (Drug Inspector) and members from Vishaw Ayurved Parishad i.e. Dr Govind Ram (president), Dr Jitender Gupta, Dr Virender Gupta, Dr Srisheta Gupta and Dr Ashok Jalla were also present to grace the occasion.
A webinar was organized by the department of Shalya Tantra under the supervision of Dr Sudesh Gupta (Professor and HoD). Besides, a debate competition was organized on the topic “Role of Ayurveda in the prevention of COVID-19” for third year students through virtual mode.
The day was also celebrated by Indigenous Medicines Organization (IMO) Jammu at JDA Plot, New Rehari, Jammu under the chairmanship of Dr KK Gandotra (former Deputy Director ISM). While paying floral tributes to Lord Dhanwantri, Dr Gandotra stressed on the ISM fraternity to follow the path shown by him. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic has made ISM professionals more responsible as there was no specific treatment yet developed and Ayurveda immunity boosters are sighs of relief for the common man.
Dhanwantri Jayanti was also celebrated in the premises of Rahul Pharma, Gangyal (Jammu). Pooja of Lord Dhanwantri was performed with staff and some senior Ayurvedic Consultants from the Government as well as from private sector. Dr Virender Mahajan, CEO of Rahul Pharma, spoke in detail about the magic effect of the certain herbs and classical formulation in the management of COVID-19 and to enhance immunity. Bansi Lal Gupta, senior vice-president, Association of Industries, Jammu also spoke on the occasion.
