Nasir beats party workers

SRINAGAR, Sept 2: The workers of rival factions of National Conference (NC) led by Ashfaq Jabbar and NC district president Abdul Rehman Mir today clashed at Ganderbal during a party convention forcing provincial president of the party, Nasir Aslam Wani, to beat few workers.
Witnesses said that supporters of Sheikh Ashfaq Jabbar who had contested 2008 Assembly election against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Ganderbal as Congress candidate fought with the supporters of district president, Abdul Rehman Mir. Sheikh’s supporters demanded that Ashfaq should be fielded from Ganderbal while Rehman, Farooq Ganderbal and others want that Omar Abdullah should contest from the constituency.
Supporters of the rival groups raised slogans against each other and even exchanged blows. Nasir Wani who was sitting on the podium jumped into the crowd and beat up few workers. However, police intervened.
The party convention was attended by Rural Development Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Forest Minister, Mian Altaf besides several top leaders of NC.
