JAMMU, May 18: BJP spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs, J&K BJP, Gaurav Gupta today termed LG Manoj Sinha’s “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan” as a historic crackdown against narco-terrorism, drug mafias and Pakistan-sponsored narcotics networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, Gaurav Gupta said the LG administration has launched an unprecedented war against drug smugglers who were destroying the future of J&K youth and financing terrorism through narcotics trade.
He said, “LG Manoj Sinha has shown zero tolerance against narco-terrorism. This campaign is not just against drugs but against the entire terror ecosystem backed from across the border.”
Highlighting the achievements of the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign, Gupta said over 646 drug smugglers and peddlers have been arrested, while 614 FIRs have been registered across Jammu and Kashmir. More than 260 kilograms of narcotics, including heroin, charas and ganja, have been seized so far.
“Properties worth over Rs 31 crore linked to drug trafficking have been attached or seized, while nearly 37 illegal houses and structures of drug smugglers have been demolished during the drive,” he said.
“Narco-palaces built with drug money are being bulldozed. Those poisoning the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are losing their illegal wealth, properties and networks,” he added.
Gupta said, “Over 3,000 medical shops and pharmacies were inspected across the UT and more than 100 licences suspended or cancelled for misuse of narcotics and illegal pharmaceutical activities.”
The BJP leader also praised the massive anti-drug padyatras and awareness drives organised across Jammu and Kashmir.
“From Srinagar’s Lal Chowk to Jammu, from every nook and corner, thousands of youth, students and civil society members are participating in padyatras and awareness drives. This clearly reflects that the people of Jammu and Kashmir stand united with LG Manoj Sinha in the fight against drugs and narco-terrorism,” Gupta added.
