Nari Naketan inmates cross river risking their lives daily

MENDHAR, Apr 6: While the Government claims that the children living in the orphanage should not be deprived of basic facilities, the things are totally different in orphanages of district Poonch. And when it comes to daughters, the slogan of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ comes above all.
But at the ground level, the picture is telling something else, orphan girl students living in Nari Naketan, located in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district, cross the river every day risking their lives.
Reports said that many widow women and orphan girls live in Nari Naketan, Mendhar. The road leading to Nari Naketan is quite dangerous. The biggest problem for the girls living in Nari Naketan is about the bridge, they have demanded to construct the bridge many times, but neither the administration paid any attention to it, nor the MLA or leader of any party came forward to help them.
These inmates said that it is not free from danger for us to cross this river daily, whether we have to go to school or for any other work, we have to cross this river.
Naida Akhtar said  that many times we have fallen in this river, whenever it is  rainy season, at that time the river is in spate, we get imprisoned. It is also very difficult for us to reach.
According to locals  it was built many years ago so that remote orphan girls or girls affected by terrorism can live here.
In such a situation, this question also arises, those who were  in power before today  who were MLAs and  MLCs, why not they proposed to the Government for this bridge. The orphan girls have demanded that a bridge should be built here so that they could get relief.
