Narcotic smuggler nabbed with 61 packets of charas

POONCH, June 13: Achieving yet another major success on its anti- drugs front, the police in Mendhar area of Poonch arrested a notorious narcotic smuggler and recovered a 950 gms of charas from his possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch Dr Vinod Kumar said that a team of Mendhar police and army’s 49 Rashtriya Rifles, was on routine naka checking in order to strengthen security grid when a man moving towards naka party tried to escape from the spot by suddenly changing his walking direction and his act developed suspicion among personnel on duty.
” At a time when he was trying to escape from the spot, the naka personnel managed to intercept him and he was put to frisking. 61 packets were recovered from his possession which contained 950 grams of Charas like substance which accused was trying to smuggle,” SSP said.
“The accused identified as Mohammad Alias, son of Showkat Hussain, resident of Ari village in Mendhar has been arrested alongwith consignment. A case in FIR 233/2021 under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.”
SSP Poonch Dr Vinod Kumar further said that a team of police is investigating the case to unearth all the forward and backward linkages of the accused with source of consignment also.
He said that Poonch police is working hard on anti- narcotic front and arrested several notorious peddlers in recent weeks. The recovery of large consignment from them was also effected, he added.
SSP further said that narcotic and drugs peddling as well as addiction is a social evil which is one of the biggest risk for society and future generations for which every section of society and every individual has to play vital role.
