SAMBA, Dec 24: In a major breakthrough, district police Samba has arrested one narcotic smuggler with a huge consignment of contraband item (180 kg poppy straw) from his possession here today.
According to the report, on a tip off regarding transportation of contraband item towards Punjab, a special naka was laid at NHW Tapyal by police team of Police Station, Ghagwal headed by Inspector, Rajeev Kumar, SHO Police Station Ghagwal in coordination with DSB Samba under the supervision of Deepak Digra, Dy.SP Hqrs Samba.
During naka checking, an oil tanker bearing Registration Number, PB07AA-5053 coming from Kashmir towards Kathua to Punjab side was intercepted and 180 kg of poppy straw was recovered after checking of the vehicle which was concealed inside one of the oil chambers of the tanker in polythene bags.
The accused driver identified as Karan Singh, son of Rattan Chand resident of Deoli, Unna, Himachal Pardesh was arrested on the spot and the contraband item was also seized.
The whole operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Dr. Koshal Sharma, SSP, Samba and ASP Samba Faisal Qureshi.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 168/2018 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at P/S Ghagwal and further investigation is started to unearth the nexus of narcotic smugglers.
