SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Minister of Public Works Naeem Akhtar today said the Government has initiated several projects costing around Rs 100 crore for fast track development of Poonch so that the benefits are reaped by people in the shortest possible time.
The Minister was speaking during a meeting to review the status of various developmental projects in the border district. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary R&B, Chief Executive Officer Poonch Development Authority, Chief Engineer R&B and PMGSY Jammu and other officials.
The Minister said that once the major developmental projects are completed the entire face of Poonch district will be changed. He said that R&B Department in Poonch is developing 130 kms of road length at a cost of Rs 38 crore and 14 bridges and 55km road length are being constructed at a cost of Rs 15.58 crore under NABARD, five roads and one bridge under CRF at a cost of Rs 15.58 crore and other projects works worth around Rs 20 crore under BADP, RMSA, PMRP (CSS) and other schemes.
The meeting was informed that 76 schemes out of 146 schemes have been completed under PMGSY in the district. Work is in progress on 47 schemes and work on 23 more schemes will be taken up shortly. The Minister said that an expenditure of Rs 11.64 crore has been made by the end of August 2017 for the current financial year.
The Minister also reviewed the status of mega projects like TFC Chakkan-de-Bagh, Girls Hostel, Gujjar Bakerwal Hostel and GDC Auditorium costing Rs 15 crore.
The Minister was informed that TRC Mendhar, TRC Surankote and cafeteria at BG Kallar have been completed and are ready for inauguration. He directed the officials to expedite the work on all projects and ensure the quality of work is maintained at highest standard.
