JAMMU, May 2: A mysterious explosion occurred at a petrol pump in the Narwal area here today, officials said. No one was injured in the blast.
The officials said the explosion might have been caused by a short-circuit in the petrol pump’s underground power board, which might have been triggered by rainwater leakage.
The blast took place around 10:15 am and resulted in damage to a portion of the petrol pump’s floor and a nearby structure housing the front office of a bank, officials said.
They said the police and experts from the Indian Oil are investigating the site.

Quoting initial investigations, SSP Jammu, Chandan Kohli said the pressure of oil vapours during the oil pumping process under a manhole might have caused the explosion while SDPO Jammu East, Zaheer Abbas Jafri said that the explosion was likely caused by a short-circuit, as the electric wiring at the site has been damaged.
The SDPO Jammu East ruled out any foul play in the blast.
The petrol pump’s employees have confirmed that there were no customers at the pump when the incident happened.
