Eminent film and television writer/Creative Director Dr. Neeraj Sharma has launched his own Neeraj Sharma Productions Pvt Ltd last month and is all set to produce his content in the form of web-series and OTT movies.
While talking to this freelance writer in a Special Talk, Dr. Neeraj Sharma has revealed many things about his future plans as a Creative Director. After the successful launch of his Production House, he has pipelined some good OTT movies besides web-series. He informed, “I am in talks with my actors and technical team. Story narrations are going on and things are positively moving ahead which will be announced very soon”. He admitted that youth and young talent from Jammu would be his first priority to be cast in these upcoming projects, which will be based on Jammu and its various unexplored serene localities.
When asked for the reason for making his own production house immediately after recovering from Covid. He pointed out, “as the lights are going out on live events, shoots, fashion shows, movies. The only prospect among all this is upsurge of OTT”. Innovative content and good stories that can hook the audiences is the main thing and streaming of these stories after good shootings and marvellous cinematography will never stop, he elaborated.
In reply to a question regarding the initiatives taken by the Govt. of UT of Jammu and Kashmir for reviving the film industry, the filmmaker urged that if any aspiring filmmaker who might be a fresher from Jammu region is looking for any investments and funding in any potent and gripping film project may contact us as every good project must reach its purpose courteously.
“As a film-maker, I am venturing out with other film corporates, Digital OTT Platforms and likeminded filmmakers to keep on working in the industry post covid era at safer locations. Keeping all this in mind I think probably Jammu is the best place to shoot out”, he added. The shoots would obviously resume as per the Standard Operating Procedures given to the industry and Producers Associations by the Health Ministry. For the time being we might refrain from producing big budget projects, however, production of web movies and web-series can be easily attained within local environments. “Many other film-makers are figuring out for their space and time to restart. We shall all stay hopeful and encouraging”, he replied to another question regarding present scenario.
Being a permanent member of Screenwriter’s Association & Producer’s Association, Dr Neeraj is the first Content and Creative Writer Director from Jammu and Kashmir in Mumbai film and TV industry. Moreover, he is the first person from Jammu and Kashmir, who is the recipient of Doctorate in Creative writing and direction from National American University, United States.
Early Life
Hailing from a small town of Jammu he completed his schooling from TTHS till 10th. After passing 12th from SRML, he moved to Delhi for pursuing Diploma in Aviation and worked in Hospitality Industry as well for two years. Then he returned to Jammu and joined GGM Science College. Creativity in his genes made him to represent the college as a Head representative in the cultural affairs. As a theatre artist, he brought many laurels to the college and Jammu University in the cultural activities at various zonal, regional and national theatrical and youth festivals. Besides he also wrote and directed many plays for Social organizations with themes of social interest for Red Cross Society, Help Age India, Cry India etc.
Work and Career
During his college and university tenure, he used to work as a casual radio announcer at Jammu. Maintaining an upright attitude towards exhibiting creativity, he initiated his new career with a television show “Mahima Shanidev Ki” for Imagine TV and then “Devo Ke Dev Mahadev” as Assistant. The best of his originality emerged being a part of a reality show “Chottey Miyan Season-3” for Colors as a content writer and later as an associate creative in the same show. He has been active in television industry as a business development consultant and creative consultant and also known as “Path Reader” for his ability and brilliance in being a vedic psychologist and motivational speaker in film industry.
Dr Neeraj has also been associated with Mumukshu Mudgal, who is the Writer/Director of Chottey Miyan all seasons, Comedy ka Mahamuqabla, Screen Awards Fame, Digambar Jain Samaj-Kundalpur for Paras TV devotional content, Terence Lewis Inc., World Cinema Partners, Mentor and Mascot Entertainments, Axel, Green Apple, Brahmakrit Productions, Disney (Almost naked animals and Stitch cartoons, Japanese series), Youtube comedy gags, JK State tourism board, Shemaroo for Devotional Content.
As an active theatric for more than a one decade, Neeraj has written many plays including Visarjan (originally Raj Rakt by Rabindra Nath Tagore as Production Controller, Creative), Nati Vinodini (by Dr. Chitranjan Gosh as Director and lyricist), Kya Nishkarsh as Writer/Director etc. The other stage productions directed by Mr Neeraj are Sab Bikta hai with MRP, Television Rating Progression, Hip Hopper, Paise-ka-Jaal, Thoonth, Jugaad, Janta Pagal Ho Gayi, Ganga Apne Badaltey Parivesh Mein, Jungle Belley, Asmita (acid attack victims), Mein Toh Teri Maa Hu (For old age home) and many more.
He has been an awardeed with Award for Overall Best Student by Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu (2001, 2006, 2007), Prof. Y.B.S Memorial Trophy for Best Student in Fine Arts (2001, 2006), Youth Achiever Award from International Human Resource Development Forum and Jammu & Kashmir State Govt (2008), Alumni Award from Jammu University Alumni Association (2010), Best Actor Award for Theatrical plays. He also received Award of appreciation for Theatrical Play Direction by ICRC (International Council of Red Cross), Award from Help Age India and many more.
He was a creative advisor to the CEO of Cover Model India, based at Mumbai. In 2015, he wrote and produced a Short film called Potly, that had received more than 15 International Film Festivals screening and 5 awards including best theme Editing and special jury mention.
Ever since his college life till date, Dr Neeraj Sharma has received more than 250 awards, medals and appreciation certificates.
