JAMMU, June 25: Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) in collaboration with the Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Government Polytechnic College, Jammu today organized an orientation programme for Taxi, Minibus and Auto Rickshaw drivers at the Railway Station.
The objective of the programme was to provide inputs to the drivers about their role in hospitality and courtesy which needs to be extended to the visiting yatris and tourists visiting J&K for sustainable tourism in view of the ensuing Shri Amarnathji Yatra.
Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. A.K. Sahu was the chief guest on the occasion.
The faculty of the Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Government Polytechnic College, interacted with the drivers and apprised them of the importance of tourism trade in boosting the economy. They underscored the need of utmost civility in conducting and interacting with visitors to the city.
MVI, Sunil Cannie educated the gathering about road safety rules and observance of driving etiquettes.
The Deputy Commissioner called upon the drivers to be courteous and helpful towards the pilgrims who would be in the city in large numbers for the next two months. He urged them not to indulge in malpractices like overcharging, rash driving and overloading which put the travellers to discomfort.

SP Traffic, Naseem Akhter, Principal Governemnt Polytechnic College, Neetu Maini, Chief Inspector Board of Inspection, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Ravi Mahjan from Prayatan Vikas Mandal, President Railway Taxi Union, Devinder Choudhary, Chairman Minibus Workers Union, Anil Chopra and Shanti Swarup Gupta and Kuljeet Kumar of Auto Rickshaw Associations and drivers in large number.
