JAMMU, June 17: Police worked out the murder case of a lady with the arrest of deceased’s husband and two others.
As per police spokesman, on April 23 this year, Police Post Chatha received an information that a lady namely Rekha Devi (31), wife of Chander Kant Tiwari of Raipur Satwari died at her house in Raipur Satwari.
Since the death has occurred in suspicious circumstances as such an inquest proceeding under section 174 CrPC was initiated at Police Post Chatha.
In order to ascertain the veracity of truth behind the death, a team led by SHO Satwari Inspector Gurmeet Singh and Incharge Police Post Chatha SI Rakesh Roshan rushed to the spot under the supervision of SDPO South Ram Singh and inspected the spot minutely.
During investigation it surfaced that the husband of the deceased had a past history of torturing his wife and restricting her from visiting her paternal house.
“On 22 April 2020, mother of deceased namely Sushma Devi telephonically invited her daughter Rekha to attend a religious programme which was scheduled to be held on April 24 at her paternal home. On April 23 morning, Rekha Devi insisted her husband Chanderkant to attend the function, which resulted into heated argument between both. The arguments were later joined by family members of Chanderkant including her mother Sunehla Devi, wife of late Dudeshvar Tiwari and sister Sunita Tiwari, wife of Rishi Kumar Sharma of Village Batha, Raipur Satwari”, police spokesman informed.
The family members caught hold of Rekha and Chanderkant hit his wife on her head with a heavy iron rod with the intention to end her life. In order to hush up their criminal act, Chanderkant and his family members silently hid the dead body behind a parked car at their residence till evening with the intention to dispose it off during night hours.
The accused informed the parents of the deceased that their daughter had left home without informing them. But their plan failed as one of the neighbours informed police and police started investigating the matter, the spokesman added.
The post mortem report overruled the theory of in-laws that Rekha fell from stairs and indicated injury marks with blunt object on the head of the deceased. This was further corroborated by the statement of the eye witness in front of whom the entire episode occurred.
The statement of the witnesses and preliminary postmortem report corroborated with the theory of murder as such the said inquest proceeding was converted and a case under FIR Number 116/2020 under section 302 IPC has been registered against the husband of the deceased and others.
During the course of investigation, the weapon of offence i.e iron rod has been recovered from accused Chanderkant Tiwari, son of late Dudheswar Tiwari of Raipur Batha, Chatha Satwari on his disclosure.
