ETAWAH, Mar 10: Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, the sitting Samajwadi Party MP from Mainpuri and the grandson of Mulauyam Singh Yadav has rebelled against the party for being denied the ticket for 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The SP leadership, in a swift retaliation on Sunday, dissolved the Etawah district unit of the party headed by Khuman Singh Verma.
In the first list of the nine candidates announced by the Samajwadi party earlier this week, the party has fielded party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav from the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat.
Samajwadi party sources said here on Sunday that Naresh Uttam, state president of the party, issued the orders on Sunday on the directions of the party president Akhilesh Yadav.
The supporters of Tej Pratap Yadav held the party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav responsible for the denial of party ticket to their leader. They also burnt the effigy of Ram Gopal Yadav in Mainpuri and raised slogans denouncing him.
The SP sources said after the denial of ticket from Mainpuri, Tej Pratap Singh Yadav had demanded the ticket from any of the four Lok Sabha seats—Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Sambhal and Jaunpur.
They further said the SP president Akhilesh Yadav has not given any firm assurance to Tej Pratap Singh Yadav. Tej Pratap was elected from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in a by-election in 2014. The by-election was held due to the resignation of Mulayam Singh Yadav as he was also elected from Azamgarh.
Shivpal Yadav the warring uncle of Akhilesh Yadav has announced to contest from Ferozabad Lok Sabha seat. (UNI)
