NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani is the richest Indian with Global Rank of 28 with a fortune of Rs 175,400 crore (26 billion dollars) having major interest in oil and telecom.
As per a Hurun Report released today, a list of the richest people in India featuring in the Hurun Global rich list with a cut-off of one billion dollars, Mr Ambani topped the list of 132 individuals.
With a net worth of Rs 101,000 crore (14 billion dollars), S P Hinduja, 81, (Global Rank: 74), the business tycoon and the primary shareholder and chairman of Hinduja Group was the second richest Indian in the list. The Hinduja family lives in Carlton House Terrace, in the heart of London’s Westminster neighborhood. All four brothers are known by the initials GP, SP, PP and AP. The conglomerate’s Hinduja National Power Corporation unit is setting up a 1,040-megawatt thermal power plant in Andhra Pradesh.
Dilip Shanghvi, 60, (Global Rank: 74), India’s richest pharma magnate and the founder of Sun Pharmaceuticals, drops to third position because of a 22 per cent decline in his wealth of Rs 99,000 crore (14 billion dollars), fuelled by 18 per cent drop of Sun Pharma shares, his flagship company. Earlier this year, he withdrew his plans to form a payment bank venture in India. ”India had a tough year because of disruptive Government policies such as demonetisation drive. However, on a long-term perspective, we do believe that such transparent currency economics will have a positive impact for the entrepreneurs,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, Managing Director and Chief Researcher, Hurun Report India.
