Mughal road tunnel awaits approval

Srinagar, June 14: Government today said construction of 8 kilometres long tunnel from Chattapani to Zaznar on Mughal road is awaiting approval from the Government of India.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Mohammad Yousuf Bhat in Lower House, Minister incharge stated that the State Government has been pursuing the matter with Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for declaration of the road as National Highway and also construction of tunnel but approval is awaited.
However, the Mughal road organization has engaged a consultant for undertaking ‘pre- feasibility study and preparation of preliminary project Report (PPR) for construction of tunnel, the Minister stated.
In reply to a separate question of Raja Manzoor Ahmad in Lower House, Minister incharge stated that Headquarters Director General Border Roads has initiated necessary tendering action for consultancy services for detailed feasibility study and framing up of phase wise proposals (DPRs) for construction of 6.12 Kilometres long Sadna Tunnel between Kilometres 28 – kilometres 48 on road Chowkibal – Tangdhar- Chawkot to provide all weather road connectivity.
