Mughal road re-opens for traffic, Srinagar coldest at -2.6

SRINAGAR Dec 10: Mughal road was thrown open after a gap of 5 days following snowfall in the Pir Panjal mountains while Srinagar recorded coldest night today.
The traffic on historic Mughal road was restored after remaining suspended for five days due to the fresh snowfall.
Meanwhile, intense cold continued in Kashmir today with Srinagar having coldest night of the season with mercury plummeting to minus 2.6 degree Celsius.
A Meteorological Department official said that the minimum temperature in Srinagar was below two degrees than the normal for this time of the year. Today’s minimum temperature surpassed that of December 1 when the mercury fell to minus 2.5 degree Celsius.
Qazigund had a low of minus 2.4 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.9 degree Celsius against minus 4.9 degree Celsius previous night.
Kokernag recorded a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius against minus 1.5 degree Celsius the previous night.
Kupwara recorded a minimum of minus 3.8 degree Celsius against minus 2.4 degree Celsius the previous night.
Gulmarg witnessed a minimum of minus 6.0 degree Celsius against minus 5.8 degree Celsius the previous night.
Leh recorded a low of minus 11.4 degree Celsius against last night’s minus 10.0 degree Celsius while Kargil had minimum of 8.6 degree Celsius and Drass recorded a low of minus 16.9 degree Celsius.
Weatherman has forecast mainly dry till December 14. “Light to moderate snow/rain in likely at scattered places of J&K on December 15,” the official said.
“There is no forecast for major snowfall till 20th December in both J&K and Ladakh”, he said and added that there would be warmer days and colder nights in J&K and Ladakh till December 14.
