POONCH, Apr 21: Historic Mughal Road, which connects Kashmir valley with Jammu region, as an alternative route through Shopian and Poonch districts shall be thrown opened to traffic on April 23 (Sunday).
Deputy Commissioner Poonch, M H Mailk disclosed that though some light vehicles have started plying on this road for the last two days, but officially this road after examining by concerned R&B engineers, is being opened to one way traffic on April 23, 2017. He said one way traffic will be allowed on this road, initially for few days but later after improvement of road, two way traffic including heavy vehicles, will be allowed to ply on this road.
Malik said that engineers of Mughal Road Division of R&B, have been directed to make the road two way for all types of vehicles by repairing the damaged stretches as early as possible.
The Dy Commissioner further said, ” vehicular movement on this historic road will give a sigh of relief to the general public, particularly traders community of both the regions which has great significance in terms of economic activities.”
Malik while giving more details said that traffic shall be allowed strictly from 9 am to 4 pm taking into account the weather conditions on daily basis and examining other related issues. He further said that no movement of traffic shall be allowed during night hours. The vehicles should, however, cross Peer- ki- Gali before 5 pm every day in any case. The local Police and Traffic Police personnel shall monitor the movement of vehicles on the either side under strict instructions, he maintained.
