INSHAN (WARDWAN) July 17: Emphasizing on the need of evolving national consensus to solve the Kashmir problem, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that solution of this vexed problem was must for the economic growth, development and lasting peace in this region. He, however, said that this problem would be solved only through the democratic means.
“There is no other option but to adopt democratic means to get this problem solved and to address all other issues”, Mufti said while addressing an impressive public meeting in remotest Inshan area in Kishtwar district this afternoon.
He maintained that dialogue was the only way to solve all problems peacefully. “Political parties of the country including the ruling UPA and other opposition groups have to realize that solution of Kashmir problem is must for the lasting peace in this region”, he said and added that it was duty of all political parties to lend support to any fresh initiative  to solve this problem. He opined that internal dimension of the Kashmir problem would be solved by addressing aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the state. He said that there was also a need for the parties across the political spectrum of the country to evolve a consensus on resolving internal dimension of Kashmir problem also.
The PDP patron highlighted the historical role played by his party in restoring peace in this region. “Since its formation PDP has been advocating that dialogue is the only solution of all problem”, he said, adding, “PDP has pioneered and implemented the peace and reconciliation process which yielded encouraging results”
Expressing his anguish over lack of basic amenities in this belt, he regretted that developmental projects started during PDP led regime have been stalled. He pointed towards poor road connectivity in the area and regretted that aggressive developmental policies which were started in this belt in the year 2003 were not properly followed after formation of the present Government headed by National Conference regime.
He said that Wardwan, Deccan and Marwah were beautiful virgin areas which have huge tourism potential but the Government has failed to tap the same. “Had the Government properly exploited tourism potential of this belt, economic conditions of the residents of this belt would have improved?”, he argued and informed the gathering that formation of Tourism Development Authority for Wardwan, Deccan and Marwah was on the agenda of PDP.
Speaking on the occasion, Sayeed Asgar Ali asked the people to compare three year tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed with decades long mis-goverance of successive National Conference regimes. “You can not befool the people any more. People have realized that except exploitation NC leadership has done nothing for them”, he told the ruling party.
