JAMMU, June 12: Kuldeep Kumar Rao, a member of the Movement for Peace Equality and Justice (MPEJ) today drew attention of Chief Minister and Health Minister towards the burning problem of adulteration especially of foodstuffs.
Rao said that adulteration especially of foodstuffs and medicines should be strongly dealt with. “Destroying occasionally caught adulated goods and imposing a fine for adulteration is no effective deterrent”, he said, adding, there should be harsh laws in place and their effective implementation.
He said that successive Governments have failed to check adulteration especially of foodstuffs, medicines and artificial ripening of fruits like bananas, mangoes, chiku and papaya by using hazardous toxic chemicals like calcium carbide, which is a dangerous to human health.
Rao strongly urged the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take some concrete steps on this important public issue in the coming assembly session without any further delay.
